This isn't a video of us working on our main projects, but we did spend a loooonnng time sorting all of these hard drives and are still in the process of wiping them.

My dad has this saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." That's how all of the challenges at Envirogreen are like. A massive pile of things to sort, catalog, and repair. The only way to make it though is just by taking it one step at a time. Having D'lano and my mentor by my side has been huge help though. They make great conversation and that helps the process of sorting, cataloging, and repairing a few dozen laptops go by faster. When we get that out of the way, we get to do more fun things, so it's good to not have to spend all day doing it alone.
It's only been a few days and I'm already picking up some new skills. The biggest one is just putting a computer together from parts, which is actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. It's almost like legos; things just go in their place without much fuss. I've also learned how to wipe a hard drive, and not by deleting everything, like deep fry the thing. Again, not as hard as it looks in the movies, I just have to push a few buttons, but it's still fun. This picture is of some fancy hard drives that have sensitive data on them. We really nuke these ones!
Externship starts in three days and I can't wait! I'm going to be working at Envirogreen, an electronics recycling center with my classmate, D'lano. We've already spent a few afternoons there and it's been super fun every time. Basically Envirogreen collects computers and our job is to find out if they work, what parts need replacing, and wiping the hard drives. Our mentor is named Amy, and she is in charge of prepping computers for sale, or deciding if they will be broken down for parts. I'm really excited to get to tinker around with computers and get to understand how they work. The only thing I am worried about is never wanting to leave at the end of the day.
